Cuenca’s Old Town is a charming UNESCO Heritage listed medieval fortified city located a couple of hours outside of Madrid.
Following a hike through the nearby geological park and a hearty late lunch. I spent the late afternoon strolling through streets and passages that feel untouched from its heyday. Placed high up in the hills, the town provides remarkable views around every corner and leading you its centrepiece cathedral, high and narrow footbridge and casas colgadas (hanging houses) suspended from the cliff face.
Cuenca was certainly a low key and relaxed change of pace from the hive of activity that was Sol the previous night and the interesting architecture, pleasantly warm and golden sunlight made for an enjoyable a laid back photowalk.
