One Month to Go

Today has been a big day in my preparations for the upcoming journey. I have now left my job and am now officially on a career break for the until at least next April. I'd been working at the same place for the last twelve years, so it is going to take a bit of adjustment to get used to not working any more. I'm sad to have left, but also excited about what is coming up. The other big news is that my renewed passport has finally arrived. I had it in my hands for about 30 minutes before having to dispatch it with my Chinese visa application. I'd been waiting on the passport for what felt like an age, so it is a relief to finally know that I should have my visa by the end of next week. I've also been being chased by travel agents that have needed to know my new details in order to finalise certain tickets; so again it is a relief to know that it is all now sorted. So what is next? Well, I'm just going to take a little time out to unwind, finalise my preparations then then wind up my Guernsey life. There are so many little things to take care of, such as cancelling the home phone and internet connections - something I'd not even think of doing usually. Gear and packing wise, I'm 99% there. Just a couple of medicinal items to pick up for when the inevitable travellers tummy kicks in. But other then that, I'm in a position where I can just pack up and go. Which is a very nice position to be in so with this a month to go.
