This is the big one. It’s been in the works for a while, but now I can say for sure that next month I will be heading off for a trip around the world. I’ll be leaving Guernsey on 31st August, and arriving in Beijing, China later that same day. From Beijing, I’ll be heading down through China back to my favourite city, Hong Kong. I always knew that I’d head back there someday, but I hadn’t expected it to be so soon! After Hong Kong, I fly to Singapore for a few days before flying to Langwaki Island in Malaysia, where I intend to do nothing more strenuous than swimming and snorkelling, before making my way through Malaysia to Kuala Lumpur in time for the Malaysian MotoGP race. After the race I head for Bangkok, Thailand where I’ll spend the next month exploring before crossing into Cambodia. In Cambodia, I’ll of course be exploring the temples of Ankor as I make my way to the Vietnam border. After crossing into Vietnam, I’ll spend a month heading from Ho Chi Minh City, up to Hanoi where I will be based for Christmas. Just after Christmas, I’ll be flying all the way down to Perth, Australia where I will see in the New Year before flying to Darwin. In Darwin I’ll be catching The Ghan and completing the three day rail journey across the continent to Adelaide. After which I’ll be heading for Melbourne and Sydney before heading up the coast to Cairns and hopefully going out to the Great Barrier Reef for some more snorkelling. At the end of January I’ll be arriving in Christchurch, New Zealand and exploring as I head to Auckland. My next destination is Santiago, Chile where I’ll be overlanding to Lima, Peru with the intention of taking in Cuzco and the ruins of Macchu Picchu. Then from Lima, I’ll be flying the the Mexican party town of Cancun to meet a tour where we will take in the Mayan ruins of the region in southern Mexico, Guatemala and Belize and returning home at the end of April. Suffice to say I’m hugely excited about the trip, as well as a little nervous about travelling on my own for so long. But the excitement of the adventure massively outweighs the fear and I cannot wait to get started.
